Hyundai 2400w Electric Garden Shredder 2.4kW
Overall this is a good, bladed shredder. I have used it now 3 times on a variety of stuff – mainly dry woody branches, mainly green branches & leaves and green, sappy stuff. It coped with each well, producing finely chopped shreddings, well suited to compost with the grass cuttings that we have in large quantities. With the really sappy stuff it did jam once and needed to be opened up and cleared. I had a previous roller/crusher type shredder that I had for many years that did yeoman service. A replacement crusher – of similar quality - would now be 10 times what I paid for this shredder. This bladed type seems as good - even if I will have to replace the blades at times. My advice is to buy relatively cheap and be prepared to replace more often, rather than pay a lot more for a “better” unit that will last for years. On the plus side, it: • is light to move, • is powerful, • produces very small chips, • is easy to fill • is well constructed. On the negative side, there are some minor things: • it is noisy – ear defenders are a good idea, • it does not self feed; long woody stems sometimes do but almost all needs to be pushed through – easy enough to do using the plunger provided • for my situation the cord is too long – I have to use an extension anyway and the 6m extra cord is unnecessary and is annoying to coil and store and is a trip hazard, • it is messy – the fan means that shredding comes out fast and fine, leaving dust and bits that overshoot the bag Overall, from my experience so far, the pluses beats the negatives by a fair way. But, there are two things I would change in the design: • It has too narrow a wheelbase. As a result it tends to tip over sideways when being pulled along. It is a bit better when being pushed, but not much. To improve it, the legs should be splayed out more, giving it a wider wheelbase. • It would be better if the back of the output chute extended down below the body so that the bag could be hooked behind something solid, so as to avoid the shreddings missing the bag to the rear. Failing that, a third bag attachment clip at the back would be OK. Happy to give it four stars
